About the Film
Samidoun: The Steadfast Women of Palestine is a powerful short documentary spotlighting the resilience, strength, and agency of Palestinian women navigating life under occupation and patriarchal pressures. Through personal stories and lived experiences of Reema Abu Aita, Asma Nayfeh, Kefaya Khreim, Halimah Zawaideh, Diala Ayesh, Aya Al Turk, Sama Nejm and Sherine Zedan the film amplifies the voices of women who persist and resist—refusing to be silenced despite systemic violence and daily hardship. Their defiance, dignity, and determination serve as a testament to steadfastness in the face of injustice.

Filmmaker and writer Mariam Shahin has produced and directed more than 70 documentary films. She is author of Palestine: A Guide (Interlink Books, 2005) and coauthor of Unheard Voices: Iraqi Women on War and Sanctions (Change, 1992) and Daybreak in Gaza: Stories of Palestinian Lives and Culture (Saqi Books, 2024).

Born in Berlin, she grew up in Canada, the US and France and repatriated to the Arab World as a young adult. She has lived in Palestine, including Gaza, for long periods of time between 1995 and 2019.
